About Us

We are Pete, Sue and Powell, husband, wife and pet pooch respectively.

Until very recently, Pete was an engineering manager for a national institution and I (Sue) worked in administration for the same institution.  For the first time since leaving college, I am  now officially unemployed and Pete is now officially retired at the 'grand old age' of 40....  Powell is between jobs.

As Pete is no longer bound by the requirements of his job and because we have never had this kind of opportunity before, we made the decision to go travelling in Europe in our motorhome.  Not too many people get the chance to do what we're doing at this age, so we figured we'd be crazy not to give it a go.  Being able to take our time to really explore places and to up sticks and move on when we want to are the key attractions of motorhome travel and we intend to make the most out of such a great opportunity.  We'll be on a tight budget, but rather than see that as limiting, it'll be a challenge and an education.

We used to own a VW California, which was great for weekends away but wasn't ideal for longer exploration as it was just too small for us to really enjoy anything more (particularly with a dog in tow!).  Although we will miss being able to park in normal car spaces, to ensure the survival of both the dog and our relationship, we decided that we ought to upsize if we were serious about going away for extended periods.  After much deliberation, we decided on Dora, a Swift Escape 686.  In mid September, we left Germany, which has been our home for the last 7 years, and moved in to Dora, where we now live full time.  After spending a few weeks in the UK visiting family, we left for our European adventure in mid October 2014.

This blog is primarily for us as a reminder of what we've done and where we've been, but also to enable friends and family to keep tabs on what we're up to while we're away.  However, we'd also love to hear from anyone who may be thinking about setting off or has already set off on a trip around Europe or further afield.  It's always great to hear from fellow travellers.  Family and friends, your messages and comments are, of course, eagerly awaited!
