I'm (not) dreaming of a white Christmas

Following the interesting sights in Orgiva, we made the decision to stick to the countryside for our second day in the area.  We had initially planned to ride out to Lanjaron, around 11km from the campsite we were staying at.  However, I had second thoughts after realising how much uphill cycling was involved so we stuck to the valley instead!
The gremlin after a dip in the river!

On Saturday, after bidding farewell and swapping contact details with Chrissie and Angus, we set off for our next destination.  We were supposed to end up in La Herradura, but a wrong turn and several grumbles later, we ended up in a ccampsite on the edge of Almuñecar.  It was a lovely little place and for 14 euros a night including wifi, it wasn't bad value.  We soon discovered though, that accessibility into the countryside was pretty lacking due to the main road right next to it.  We had a look around the town on the first day and although the beach itself was really lovely, we were a little disappointed by the rest, but that of course, is totally subjective.  Maybe we just arrived at the wrong time and walked in the wrong direction - we seem to be good at that!

Sunday was a lazy affair consisting of not much at all (I read a book), followed by a mid morning departure to pastures new on Monday (today!).

We had intended on driving inland today and to spend a few days in free aires to make up for the overspending we seem to have managed to do lately.  However, we actually ended up spending a small fortune on Christmas food and drink shopping in Eroski in Mijas, before setting up camp again on the outskirts of Marbella...quite probably for Christmas - the free aires can wait!  The campsite, despite being right next to the motorway, is actually fairly quiet and there are pedestrian crossings to town and the beach.  It's 16 euros a night including electricity and wifi is extra; but it is Christmas so this is our final splurge before the New Year belt tightening!  We haven't had much of a look around as we arrived late afternoon, then got sidetracked speaking to another Brit couple who also arrived here today.

Pete has already been looking online for mountain bike trails in the area and there appear to be a few, so hopefully he'll be sufficiently entertained to be able to stay here until Saturday...watch this space!
