Hitzacker

If you look really closely, you can just about see where we parked...

Hitzacker old town - unfortunately the sun didn't come out until we left!

On 28 Mar 14, we spent a weekend in the lovely town of Hitzacker.

Hitzacker is yet another town on the Deutsche Fachwerk Strasse.  The island town sits at the confluence of the rivers Jeetzel (Yeetsel) and Elbe.
As the town sits on the Elbe flood plain, it has been subject to numerous floods over the years, the highest recorded levels being in 2006, during the construction phase of the newly designed flood protection for the town.

Powell being chased by a particularly scary young lady - look at those eyes!

Despite the floods and the damage they must have caused, Hitzacker is a lovely little town, which has been well looked after and kept its timber framed charm.  Unfortunately, as is usually the case with us, we took pictures of the surrounding areas but very few, if any, of the town itself.

Nelson was here!

Interesting piece of furniture outside a shop
