Back on the road and a little bit of home

After 6 weeks and 2 days, we finally left the campsite in Ronda today!  It felt great to be back on the road, despite our first stop being fairly uninspiring; but after 6 weeks of not moving, we didn’t really care!

The last time we were in Spain, we spent a rainy day and night in Gibraltar.  It quite literally rained the entire 24 hours we were there.  Despite the good night out, we vowed never to go back and were happy to drive straight past...until I recently discovered that they now have a Morrisons there.  We’re not usually the kind of people to yearn for British food, but to be fair, we haven’t been away from British food long enough to yearn it, until now.  We’ve also discovered during our travels so far, that although coffee seems to be a staple in Europe, proper (British proper!) tea isn’t.  We are coffee drinkers, but have begun to drink more tea over the past few months.  We’ve been buying teabags, along with all of our other groceries, locally but we normally need to use 2 teabags each to get anywhere near a decent cup of tea, so we succumbed to the pull of Morrisons and returned to Gibraltar today!  It wasn’t a huge diversion as we’re going to Tarifa next, otherwise we wouldn’t have bothered.  We found the aire fairly easily thanks to Hazel, our (for once) trusty sat nav.  We changed the settings just before we arrived in Ronda, so hopefully that should stop her from sending us in random directions...so far she hasn’t.  At 12 euros a night, it wasn’t the cheapest place, but it’s minutes few into Gibraltar and there’s not too much road noise.  After sorting ourselves out, we grabbed our bags and headed to the border.

A short walk and presentation of passports later, we were in Gibraltar, again.  We took a couple of touristy pictures en route and had a quick look through the town again just to make sure we hadn’t missed a hidden gem the last time around; we hadn’t, so we headed to Morrisons before heading back to Dora, with our supply of very British goodies!  We didn’t buy a great deal as our bags weren’t big enough, thankfully, so we bought only what we deemed ‘necessary’ and not readily available elsewhere.  Short but sweet, we were in, around and back in Spain in just over 2 hours.  Sorry Gib, but you just don’t float our boats enough to keep us any longer!  Powell enjoyed being somewhere new and I’m sure the macaques are great but I’m not overly keen on the little blighters and the cable car was shut...besides, I’m pretty sure they don’t take dogs anyway, so we wouldn’t have been able to go on.  On the bright side though, it didn’t rain, we’re having (proper) bacon butties for tea tonight and probably cheese and pickle ones for lunch tomorrow...oh, and we now have enough proper teabags to see us through until Easter!  Tarifa tomorrow and hopefully a couple of freebie nights to boot!
