Standing Stones

It’s almost a fortnight since our last update and 5 weeks on Monday since we arrived in Ronda.  What have we been up to, you may ask...not much really!  They say a rolling stone gathers no moss.  In our case, it’s true and we have found ourselves growing more mossy as the days go by.  Being here so long has also got us pondering our future in the UK and just how soon we should return.

When we left the UK, we planned to be away as long as we possibly could, which by our reckoning could be a good couple of years.  However, a number of factors have had us wondering whether we should go back sooner than planned.

We’ve recently been having a few issues with our house in the UK, which has led us to wondering what the best possible solution is.  Do we stay away and ride out the storm or do we cut our losses and return to the UK?  We have also talked about the fact that we are both looking forward to getting settled into our house when we do finally move in properly.  We’ve never owned a house before, having been renters for the duration of our marriage so far and the thought of actually being able to paint, change flooring, plaster etc, without repercussions is really exciting!  That probably sounds a bit odd to some people I’m sure, but we’ve never lived anywhere for more than 5 years, always rented and always moved when we’ve been told to.

All of this is of course, has been highlighted due to our itchy feet (Pete’s even more so than mine).  I've realised that it's a little ironic really, that staying still for so long and wanting to move on appears  to have highlighted a hidden desire to settle down....but it's not so much the settling as the wanting to do things, certainly as far as Pete's concerned.  Not having a lot going on right now has just brought more attention to the things that we want to get stuck into when we get back and we’ve been letting our imaginations run riot with DIY and interior design ideas!

Our main reason for going away was to escape the rat race and to make the most of having a big chunk of free time to do as we please and to explore.  Despite our musings about prematurely cancelling our trip, we both know we’d be crazy to go back now; work, friends and family ties would develop and we’d end up too attached to leave.  We know we’ll never have a chunk of time like this again and would be really silly not to make the most of it, so sorry folks, don’t get too excited thinking we might be coming back early...we don’t plan to at the moment.  There's too much out there to see and once we start moving again, we can continue the adventure and hopefully the DIY dreams will return from whence they came!

Despite the house issues, we have far more to lose by coming back early than we do if we stay away as planned...DIY can wait, but life can’t!
